You might have been told that you grind your teeth because you’re stressed (it’s possible!) or that we don’t really know why people grind their teeth. The truth is that teeth grinding has been studied extensively and many research papers and articles have been published on the topic. Whilst there is no consensus on the exact cause of teeth grinding, we do know that it is complex and likely involves several environmental
and genetic factors.
My aim with this guide is to give you a simple checklist if you will that you can work through to identify the factors that might be causing or exacerbating your grinding. Each section will present a different known link to grinding and explain how it contributes to grinding, how to identify if this is a possible issue for you and what to do about it.
This guide is based on scientific research, but you won’t
need a PhD to read it because I’ve skipped the jargon and explained everything as simply as possible! (If you’re a health professional and you’ve found your way here, maybe just skip straight to the references).
